Electric success underground – delivery of LKAB's new electric truck
Through collaboration, we create innovations for the transport industry.
This became clear when our representatives from JOAB participated in the delivery of LKAB's new electric service truck on site in the Malmberget mine. It is a JOAB flatbed in combination with a rear mounted crane of the type HMF1120. The building is specially adapted based on LKAB's specific needs.
LKAB invests heavily in electrifying their operations and as one of their first steps they chose to invest in a new electric service truck from Scania. The design of electric vehicles requires high technical standards, which led LKAB and Scania to turn to JOAB to create the optimal design for the new truck. Our main goal of 'creating innovations for the transport industry' was a perfect fit for this project.
When LKAB reviewed the finished result and the carefully executed documentation, they noted that they had not previously collaborated with a body builder that maintains the same high standards as JOAB.
During week 47, the project finally reached its goal when our employees, Emil Sahlberg, Mikael Watsi and Gustaf Malmström participated in the delivery and trained LKAB's staff in the new superstructure. At the time of delivery, they also had the opportunity to accompany them down into the mine, 1,250 meters underground, and see the car in operation. There, they could see the advantages that it means for LKAB's staff to use a silent electric car and avoid the exhaust gases in the narrow mine passages.
Many thanks for the trust to Norrlands Bil Tunga Fordon in Gällivare and LKAB.
