We strive to contribute to a sustainable and just world
At JOAB, we are convinced that responsible sustainability work, where we protect both the environment and people, not only creates a more sustainable society and a safer working environment for our employees, but also opens doors to new business opportunities. By focusing on sustainability, we promote technological innovations, improve the working environment and create better economic conditions for the future. Our commitment to sustainability is an integral part of our business strategy and a driving force for continuous improvement and growth.
Our work with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals
We actively support the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These goals are not just guidelines, they represent our commitment to shaping a better future for every individual and community.
Within this framework, we have identified five key goals where we see our impact and opportunity as most significant. Our aim is to actively integrate these goals into our business goals, focus areas, business plan and contribute to a more sustainable and just world for all.
Goal number 5 - Gender equality
Achieve gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.
We strive for equal opportunities and rights regardless of gender. We believe in building a strong, diverse and inspiring workforce, especially in our industry that tends to be male-dominated. By supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals, we work to reduce inequalities, promote women's participation, and ensure that our products and services benefit all genders. Our equal treatment policy is the basis for our sustainability work, among other things.
How does JOAB work with goal number 5?
- Equal recruitment – We use objective and fair selection processes.
- Leadership at all levels – We work actively to increase the proportion of women in leadership positions.
- Training – We offer training to give more people the opportunity to grow and develop.
- Inclusive workplace – We provide menstrual protection, from RedLocker, free of charge at our workplaces.
- Donors – We support organisations that aim to help vulnerable women, such as the Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation.
Goal number 9 - Sustainable industry, innovations and infrastructure
Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialisation, and promote innovation.
We invest in innovative technologies to reduce the environmental impact while increasing the efficiency of our products. We strive to be a leader in sustainable solutions in our industry and believe that this is an important part of our sustainability work. Our ISO 9001 certification contributes to a systematised way of managing the work with continuous improvements, both in terms of product quality and within the framework of the environment and climate.
How does JOAB work with goal number 9?
- Energy-efficient superstructures – Our energy-efficient superstructures contribute to fuel-efficient trucks with a lower environmental impact, giving our customers the opportunity to meet environmental requirements, maintain a high environmental profile and at the same time reduce their operating costs.
- Material selection and construction – Through strategic choices of materials and construction, we have a significant impact on the resource consumption in the manufacture and use of the product. When we work with mobile constructions, high demands are placed on low dead weight, which enables the vehicle to have a higher overall payload, which in turn reduces transport, energy consumption and emissions.
- Smart digital services – Through the ability to connect our products, we enable our service technicians to connect and help the customer on site with their truck, which contributes to fewer downtimes and the need to go to a service workshop.
- SSAB Zero steel - By 2025, we will switch to using SSAB Zero steel in our fixed underrun protection for hooklifts and skiploaders.
Goal number 13 - Climate action
Take immediate action to combat climate change and its consequences.
We are committed to reducing our own carbon footprint and are committed to positive initiatives in our industry. By promoting sustainable practices, work processes and collaborating with other like-minded players, we are committed to contributing to a sustainable planet for future generations.
How does JOAB work with goal number 13?
- Sustainability training – By having all employees undergo basic training, we create awareness and commitment.
- Energy-efficient products – Our products contribute to lower environmental and climate impact.
- Energy consumption – We work actively to reduce our own energy consumption and climate footprint, through, for example, optimisation of our material transports, climate-smart travel and other improvements within our own operations such as motion sensors, LED lighting, reduced waste and reduced energy loss.
- Investment solar panels – Greater share of energy based on renewable energy.
- Company cars – As far as possible, we are converting all our company cars to electric and hybrid cars.
- SSAB Zero steel - By 2025, we will switch to using SSAB Zero steel in our fixed underrun protection for hooklifts and skiploaders.
Goal number 7 - Affordable and clean energy
Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.
We invest in renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainable technologies to reduce our environmental impact. We see energy as a key component in our journey towards a more sustainable future. Our ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 certification contribute to a systematised way of managing the work with continuous improvements, both in terms of product quality and within the framework of the environment and climate.
How does JOAB work with goal number 7?
- Renewable energy – By increasing the share of renewable energy through investment in solar panels and solar parks, as well as choosing green electricity for our facilities, we are helping to increase the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix.
- Charging stations – We invest in charging points for passenger cars to create the conditions for the transition to renewable energy.
- Company cars – As far as possible, we are converting all our company cars to electric and hybrid cars
Goal number 12 - Sustainable consumption and production
Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.
We take our responsibility as a company and use our resources efficiently, reduce waste and emissions, and promote sustainable practices in our production and how our products are used. We strive to reduce our environmental impact throughout our business chain to promote a more sustainable lifestyle and production.
How does JOAB work with goal number 12?
- Responsible handling of chemicals – Through our procedures and processes, we ensure safe, environmentally and work-friendly handling and use. We are also actively working on phasing out and substitution of chemicals.
- Responsible sourcing – Choosing suppliers and materials that are environmentally friendly and sustainable.
- Responsible waste management – Through recycling, we help reduce the amount of waste.
- Responsible production - By reusing existing vehicles (Returpack vehicles to refuse vehicles), electronics and other components, we reduce the need for new resources, which in turn reduces both material consumption and energy consumption.
